How to help achieve tendonitis relief


  • Restrict or immobilize the affected area whenever possible with the use of slings, splints, elastic wraps and crutches. This will allow the tendon time to heal.
  • Use ice packs or simply wrap some ice in a towel and apply regularly to the affected area for up to 20 minutes at a time. This will help to relieve pain, reduce swelling and ease muscle cramps.
  • If tendonitis affects your knees then elevate your legs to help reduce and alleviate the swelling
  • Compress the area using a bandage, elastic wrap or sports guard. This will reduce swelling and give the tendon time to heal.
  • Gentle movement and mild exercise generally reduces the stiffness often associated with tendonitis, however, make sure you give it sufficient rest and do not to over-work the tendon as this will worsen the symptoms. Swimming or water aerobics are the best option when exercising an inflamed tendon.
