Tips for treating a dog bite

Once the bleeding has stopped, clean the dog bite with warm water and soap, and then cleans the wound thoroughly with a natural cleansing solution. Once the wound is thoroughly cleansed, apply an anti-bacterial or healing gel directly to the wound and wrap the wound in a clean dressing.
A bite that starts swelling excessively or is incredibly painful may also need medical attention. Your physician may recommend X-rays to determine if any bones have been broken.
All bite wounds should be observed for 24 to 48 hours. If the area becomes increasingly painful, swollen or red, then an infection may have set in, in which case medical attention may be necessary.
As always, prevention is always better than cure. Parents should teach their children never to pet unfamiliar dogs without asking the owner first, and never tease or provoke any dog. Always supervise your child when they spending time with animals.
